Low Medium High
Code Meaning Severity Common Symptom
DF Defrost System Fault Medium Unlike a compressor or fan failure, a defrost fault causes a slow, progressive warm-up as frost accumulates on the evaporator coil over days and restricts the cold airflow that maintains cabinet temperature. The rise may be barely noticeable at first. View FROST-BUILDUP Excessive Frost Accumulation (No Electronic Code) Medium On Kenmore manual-defrost chest freezers, frost accumulates naturally on interior surfaces from normal door opening and food storage. A buildup exceeding 1/4 inch significantly reduces storage capacity and insulation efficiency, signaling that a scheduled manual defrost is overdue. View HI High Temperature Alarm High The Kenmore Elite upright freezer display alternates between HI and the current temperature reading, and the alarm horn sounds periodically until the condition is acknowledged or the temperature falls back within range. View NO-COOLING Freezer Not Cooling (No Electronic Code) High The most unmistakable symptom — food that should be solidly frozen is soft, thawed, or beginning to spoil, and the interior cabinet feels no colder than room temperature even after the unit has been running for several hours. View OP Temperature Sensor Open Circuit Medium The Kenmore Elite upright freezer display replaces the normal temperature readout with the OP fault code, indicating the board cannot obtain a valid temperature reading from the cabinet sensor. View PF Power Failure Detected Low As soon as utility power returns to the Kenmore Elite upright freezer, the electronic control board displays PF and sounds the alarm tone to alert the user that cooling was interrupted and food temperatures should be assessed. View SH Temperature Sensor Short Circuit Medium The Kenmore Elite upright freezer control panel replaces the normal temperature display with SH, indicating the temperature sensor is reading as a dead short and the board cannot use that value for temperature regulation.
