Kenmore PRO gas range carbon monoxide recall 2010 — CPSC and Electrolux announced a voluntary recall covering approximately 900 Electrolux ICON and Kenmore PRO dual-fuel gas ranges. An incorrect oven part allowed excess fuel to pass to the oven, causing incomplete combustion and release of carbon monoxide — a silent, odorless, potentially lethal gas.
Why this matters
The incorrect oven burner orifice allowed more gas to the oven than could be efficiently combusted. Incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide, which is colorless, odorless, and immediately dangerous at elevated concentrations. Electrolux received four reports of CO incidents involving these ranges prior to recall.
Affected models
- Kenmore PRO dual-fuel ranges: model numbers 790.76913800 and 790.76913801
- Serial numbers between NF83000000 and NF93633000
- Model and serial number label located near the base of the range, below the bottom right of the oven door, and on the back
- Sold at Sears stores nationwide from August 2008 through October 2009 for approximately from $2,500
- Approximately 900 units total (Electrolux ICON and Kenmore PRO combined)
How to identify
Look for Kenmore PRO branding on the range front and model numbers 790.76913800 or 790.76913801 on the label near the bottom of the oven door frame. If you have a carbon monoxide detector, install one near the range if not already present.
Recommended action steps
- Stop using the oven immediately — the range burners are safe, but the oven is not
- Install a carbon monoxide detector near the range if not already present
- Contact Sears at 1-800-659-7026 to schedule the free oven orifice replacement repair
- If anyone in the home has experienced dizziness, headache, or nausea near the range, evacuate and call 911
Urgency level
High. Carbon monoxide poisoning risk — immediately stop oven use and schedule repair. CO can be fatal and is undetectable without a detector.
